A thriving village cricket club will extend its pavilion to meet rising demand for girls and women’s participation.

Shireshead And Forton Cricket Club has been granted planning permission to add an extra storey and remodel the building to create female changing rooms and make better use of existing space. The changes will mean that the public areas of the building will be more suitable for hosting functions.

The application states: “It is proposed to extend and remodel the existing cricket pavilion to enhance and broaden the availability of the facilities on offer. The changing room block is to be extended to enable the Club to offer separate female changing areas, which they do not currently provide.

“The existing Club House Room is to be extended within the existing building footprint and enhanced, offering better facilities and giving the building a better opportunity to cater for all the ancillary amenities required around usual cricket related activities such as team talks, refreshments and club award ceremonies whilst giving the building better functionality as a cricketing hub.”

The plans also include adding solar panels to the roof and improving disabled access and have been approved by Wyre Borough Council.
