DON’T bite the hand that feeds you; in this case, don’t bite the hand that’s funding your honeymoon.

She explained that she offered to fund the couple’s honeymoon when they faced financial difficulty.

Redditor Plastic-Slide-775 shared the wedding drama in a post.

She explained that she’d been best friends with “Lisa” since they were children and was over the moon when Lisa asked her to be maid of honor at her ceremony.

“Recently, Lisa mentioned that she and her fiance are struggling to afford their dream honeymoon to Bora Bora,” she said.

“They have been saving, but unexpected expenses have come up.”

The Redditor offered to step up to the plate as best friend and maid of honor.

“Knowing how much this trip means to them, I wanted to help,” she said.

“I offered to contribute a significant amount of money towards their honeymoon as a wedding gift because I am earning very well.”

She was shocked, however, when she saw the total sum for their travel plans.

“When Lisa and her fiance finalized their plans, they chose the most luxurious resort in Bora Bora, with all the bells and whistles,” she said.

“The cost was astronomical, far beyond what I had initially anticipated.

“When Lisa sent me the breakdown of the costs and my share, I was floored.

“It was more than double what I had budgeted to give them.”

She explained her situation to Lisa and offered the original amount she’d intended to contribute.

“Lisa got upset and said I was ruining her dream honeymoon. She argued that as her best friend and maid of honor, I should be willing to make sacrifices for her big day,” she said.

The disagreement caused a “rift” between the two after Lisa asked someone else to serve as maid of honor, leaving her unsure of what to do.

“Our mutual friends are divided. Some think I’m being reasonable, while others believe I should find a way to come up with the money to make Lisa’s dream come true,” she said.

Many, however, think she should walk away while she has the chance.

“Not the a**hole. Let the trash take itself out,” said one commenter.

“This isn’t a friend; it’s a leech,” agreed another.

Some felt that her original offer was more than enough.

“Go ahead and not contribute a cent. You VERY GENEROUSLY offered a huge sum to Lisa, and she deliberately planned a very extravagant trip fully intent on guilting you to pay more,” wrote one commenter.

“Save all her messages, pull out as MOH, don’t give her any money, then get ready to drop evidence of the truth WHEN she tries to play victim to your friends about how you ruined her honeymoon out of jealousy.”

Others were shocked by her former friend’s audacity.

“I just can’t fathom how people like this have no shame,” said one critic.

“Expecting their friends to ruin their financial security to pay for YOUR honeymoon.

“If someone can’t afford it, then they shouldn’t go. They should save up until it’s financially viable, like any other responsible adult.”
