French Prime Minister Gabriel Attal declared on Sunday that he will offer his resignation to President Emmanuel Macron on Monday.

This announcement comes in the wake of a significant shift in the National Assembly following the second round of parliamentary elections.

The left-wing alliance, New Popular Front, has emerged as the leading force, surpassing both Macron’s ruling party and the far-right National Rally.

In his statement, Attal hailed the elections as ushering in a “new era” for the National Assembly.

However, he expressed his readiness to continue serving “for as long as duty demands,” if his resignation is not accepted by President Macron.

Attal said this citing the upcoming Paris Olympics set to commence in three weeks as a crucial period requiring stable leadership.
