The next stage of a new social housing development in Lea has been completed.

Community Gateway Association has taken on 25 new properties in the Savick and Ainsdale scheme.

Begun in 2017 the scheme, being completed in phases, focuses on the area around the Savick shops along with the former Savick Pub and Ainsdale House care home.

The development includes 12 two-bedroom, 12 three-bedroom and one four-bedroom home.

Gateway’s executive director of customers and communities, Louise Mattinson, said: “We are so proud to have invested in this regeneration project, and it is great to see the difference it has made to the area.

“It’s evidence of our commitment to transforming our neighbourhoods, and to providing more affordable homes and creating communities our tenants can be proud of – a key part of our corporate plan.

“Not only have we been able to provide much-needed new affordable housing in the area for families who have been desperately waiting, but the investment in these homes, along with the library and the new retail unit, has also transformed the area and will bring positive and lasting benefits for the wider community.”

The development is also due to include a new retail unit as a local shop as well as a purpose-built modern library to be run by Lancashire County Council.

Work on the new homes was completed by GK Construction and Project Management.

A third phase with a further 17 new social homes gets started on the site of the former Lea Methodist Church and is expected to be complete by 2026.
