A large vehicle has flipped onto its side and sustained heavy damage in an incident at a motorway service station.

Emergency services rushed to the scene of the incident at around 5.40am this morning (20 July) after what appears to be a motorhome flipped onto its side at the Rivington motorway services on the M61 northbound.

The process to recover the vehicle is underway but access to the services at Rivington is still available.

A spokesperson for police said: “We are currently at the scene of an overturned vehicle Northbound Rivington Services M61. With our colleagues from North West Ambulance Service, Lancashire Fire & Rescue Service and Highways North West.

“Luckily only minor injuries. We are in the process of recovering the vehicle. Access can still be gained to the services northbound at M61 Rivington. We thank you for your patience.”
