The Borno State Command of the Nigeria Police Command has reported that an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) caused the death of a male victim in another attack in Maiduguri, with 11 others sustaining injuries of varying degrees.

The Police Commissioner, Yusuf Lawal, revealed this information on Friday while giving an update to newsmen.

Naija News reports that the incident took place during a demonstration against poor governance at Deribe Junction near the Federal Government Girls’ College Monguno Annex in the Bulumkutu area of Maiduguri.

Lawal mentioned that the wounded individuals were transported to the State Specialist Hospital in Maiduguri for medical attention, while the deceased victim’s body was sent for a post-mortem examination.

He added that the police promptly dispatched personnel from the Explosive Ordnance Device, Base 13, to investigate the scene and secure the area surrounding a filling station.

“In a separate incident, a case of culpable homicide was reported in Biu local government area,” Lawal said.

The commissioner stated that one Muhammad Wakshama had informed them that his son-in-law, Ibrahim Bulama, had a dispute with his wife, Maryam Ibrahim, and struck her on the head with a stick, causing severe injury.

The victim was then transported to General Hospital Biu for medical care, but, unfortunately, was pronounced dead on Thursday.

Furthermore, the commissioner mentioned that the suspect had been apprehended and evidence had been recovered as the investigation continued.

Lawal also mentioned that these events had brought the total number of fatalities in the state to 17 within the last 48 hours, with numerous others sustaining injuries.

“The Borno command assures the citizens that investigations are ongoing and that normality has been restored,” he said.
