LONDON — Well, this is awkward.
Britain’s former Prime Minister Liz Truss was out and about at Goodwood Racecourse on Friday.
But she didn’t exactly get star billing as punters soaked up the sun.
ITV grilled excited attendees about the day’s racing action, with the station’s roving reporter spotting millionaire Scottish oil exec James Hay accompanied by a beaming woman in white.
This is incredible in several ways, not least of which that I don't think there is another former PM that could go entirely unrecognised through an interview.
But also – mainly – because it results in the BEST IMPROVISED PUT DOWN/SEGUE EVER on television. ~SS pic.twitter.com/qsdLzRAuCa

That woman? Truss, who served for a chaotic 45 days as Britain’s leader, during which time market meltdown roiled the U.K. economy.
After grilling Hay on his horse-racing tips, however, ITV’s host opted not to pass the mic to Truss and … moved swiftly on, handing back to the studio.
Racing commentator Richard Hoiles then picked up the baton — and appeared to clock who had just been on viewers’ screens.
He asked: “That’s Liz Truss isn’t it?”
“It was, my eyes are not deceiving me,” his co-commentator replied.
Hoiles then dealt the killer blow: “This market could crash any minute, couldn’t it?”
