KAMALA Harris is officially the Democratic nominee in the 2024 US presidential election.
The vice president’s nomination comes after President Joe Biden dropped out of the race.
Vice President Kamala Harris has secured enough delegate votes to become the Democratic Party’s nominee for president, Democratic National Committee Chair Jaime Harrison announced on Friday, August 2, 2024, per The Associated Press.
Though the online voting process is ongoing until Monday, August 5, Harris’ campaign announced the moment when she crossed the threshold to have the majority of delegates vote.
“I am honored to be the presumptive Democratic nominee,” Harris said on a call with supporters.
Harrison said “we will rally around Vice President Kamala Harris and demonstrate the strength of our party” during its convention in Chicago later in August.
