In his usual manner, former US President Barack Obama has unveiled his 2024 summer playlist, which prominently features Nigeria’s Tems and Rema.

Tems, renowned for her captivating voice and unique sound, has made her mark once again. Her single ‘Love Me Jeje,’ which samples the classic hit by Seyi Sodimu and Shaffy Bello, is featured on Obama’s playlist.

This track is a standout from her debut album, Born In The Wild. Tems has previously graced his playlists, with her 2022 inclusion of ‘Vibe Out’ and her BET-winning hit ‘Me & U’ making waves in 2023.

Rema also finds himself on the 2024 playlist with his energetic single ‘Yayo’ from his latest album, HEIS.

This isn’t the first time Rema has been on Obama’s list; his 2019 hit ‘Iron Man’ was a notable entry on the former president’s 2019 list.

Also, South African sensation Tyla, whose Grammy-winning track “Water” was featured on the former President’s 2023 end-of-year list, is back with “Jump” from her self-titled album Tyla.

This track, featuring collaborations with Gunna and Skillibeng, continues to highlight her global appeal.

Obama’s 2024 playlist features a range of global artists including Beyoncé with ‘Texas Hold ’em,’ Shaboozy’s chart-topper ‘A Bar Song,’ H.E. R’s introspective ‘Process,’ and Bad Bunny & Fied’s ‘Perro Negro,’ among others.

Compared to Obama last year’s playlist, which saw a solid representation of Afrobeats with entries from Burna Boy, Asake & Olamide, Davido & Musa Keys, and Tems, the 2024 playlist with its two Afrobeats tracks underscores the genre’s impact and popularity on the global stage.
