Manchester City’s midfielder, Bernardo Silva, doesn’t see his Portugal national teammate, Cristiano Ronaldo, as his football idol.

Ronaldo is the most decorated footballer from Portugal, and a player like Bernardo Silva is expected to idolize him like thousands of other players in his age bracket.

However, Silva doesn’t idolize Ronaldo based on his comments in an interview with ESPN Argentina in which he was asked to name his football idol.

Instead, the 30-year-old versatile Portuguese footballer expressed his admiration for former Argentina international, Pablo Aimar.

Despite never playing in Argentina, Bernardo Silva reminisced about being captivated by Aimar’s playing style as a young fan in far away Portugal.

“My idol? I liked watching Pablo Aimar when I was a kid… I really like him,” Bernardo Silva said.

This choice contrasts with many of his peers who often name either Cristiano Ronaldo or Lionel Messi as their football idols.

When asked to pick between the two iconic Argentine clubs, Boca Juniors and River Plate, Bernardo Silva revealed his preference for River Plate, citing his admiration for Aimar and Saviola.

“Boca or River? I don’t have a favourite, but my idol is Pablo Aimar, and I really like Saviola, so I like River Plate more,” Bernardo said.
