Former heavyweight champion, Wladimir Klitschko, believes Nigerian-born British boxer, Anthony Joshua will beat Tyson Fury if they clash in the future.
Wladimir Klitschko, who faced both fighters in the latter stages of his career (lost to Fury in a controversial decision in 2015 and lost to AJ via knockout in 2016), expressed confidence in Joshua’s ability to emerge victorious against Fury.
He highlighted Joshua’s physical attributes and continued improvement in the sport and labelled him as a “complete fighter.”
According to Klitschko, Joshua possesses the technical skills, size, weight, and power needed to secure a victory over Fury.
“Hands down, Joshua,” Klitschko answered when reporters asked him who would win a Fury Vs Joshua clash. “He is getting to be the complete fighter. Technically, size-wise, weight-wise, power-wise. And he is a good learner.”
Undoubtedly, Klitschko’s remarks add a fascinating layer to the growing anticipation for a potential unification bout between Joshua and Fury.
Despite Fury’s solidified status as a top heavyweight, especially following his trilogy against Deontay Wilder, Klitschko expressed doubts about Fury’s long-term discipline, likening him to “a fart in the wind” and questioning his staying power at the top level of the sport.
He said: “The other guy (Fury), like a fart in the wind, it is there and it is gone. In the history of boxing, there are a lot of examples of this kind of guy. They can be successful for a time but are not disciplined enough to continue to be successful.”
The boxing landscape has indeed shifted since Klitschko’s exit from the game, with Joshua facing recent setbacks, including losses to Andy Ruiz Jr. and Oleksandr Usyk. However, Joshua’s upcoming bout against IBF titleholder Daniel Dubois in September presents an opportunity for him to reignite his career.
Fury, on the other hand, is gearing up for a rematch against Oleksandr Usyk, aiming to reclaim the world titles held by the Ukrainian. Should Joshua and Fury emerge victorious in their respective bouts, a potential unification clash in 2025 is on the horizon.
