The world heavyweight champion, Oleksandr Usyk, has expressed his strong desire to solely focus on facing Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury.
Oleksandr Usyk emphasized his preference for rematches with the duo, stressing that it’s time for younger fighters to step up, claiming that only bouts involving Fury and Anthony are interesting.
Usyk, with an impressive record of 22 wins and zero defeats with 14 knockouts, is set to face Fury on December 21.
Amid that, he hasn’t ruled out a potential third fight with Joshua, contingent on the latter’s performance against Daniel Dubois on September 21 at Wembley Stadium.
“Well, this is a rematch with Fury and possibly a third match with Joshua. Only with these two guys is it still interesting. From now on, let the youth get fit and work,” Usyk said on Seconds Out.
Usyk’s focus on Joshua and Fury indicates his intentions to end his career on a high note. If he manages to triumph over both fighters again, he could potentially retire with an unbeaten record of 24-0, solidifying his legacy as one of boxing’s all-time greats.
His remarkable resume already includes Olympic gold and the record of being the first boxer to unify all four belts in both the cruiserweight and heavyweight divisions.
As the boxing world eagerly anticipates these high-stakes matchups, all eyes will first be on Joshua’s performance against Dubois at Wembley Stadium. The outcome has the potential to set the stage for a potential trilogy bout with Usyk, adding another chapter to their intense rivalry.
Joshua’s upcoming bout with Dubois has generated significant attention, as tickets quickly sold out for the expanded 96,000-capacity venue.
The increased capacity at Wembley Stadium showcases Joshua’s influence and the immense interest in his quest to reclaim a world title for the third time.
