The 76th Primetime Emmy Awards ceremony, held on Sunday at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, saw several historic wins and surprising upsets.
FX’s “Shogun” had a notable night at the Emmy Awards, winning eighteen awards, including Best Drama Series. Hiroyuki Sanada and Anna Sawai, both from “Shogun”, made history by becoming the first Japanese actors to ever win Emmys.
In the comedy category, HBO’s “Hacks” pulled off a surprise win for Best Comedy Series, beating out favourite “The Bear”.
Despite this, “The Bear” still collected four major awards, including acting nods for Jeremy Allen White, Liza Colón-Zayas, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach.
“The Bear” also set a new record for most wins in a single season for a comedy with 11
Netflix’s “Baby Reindeer” claimed the Best Limited Series title, with Richard Gadd winning Best Actor and also collecting the writing Emmy in the genre.
Other notable winners included Elizabeth Debicki, who won Best Supporting Actress in a Drama Series for “The Crown”, and Billy Crudup, who won Best Supporting Actor in a Drama Series for “The Morning Show”.
The Emmy Awards ceremony was hosted by Eugene and Dan Levy and also saw the presentation of the Governor’s Award to Greg Berlanti.
Disney dominated the awards with a record-breaking total of 60 wins.
