Household Support Fund in Preston – who it can help and what the deadline is

Preston City Council is encouraging those eligible to apply for funding to help with food, energy and water bills and essential items.

The Household Support Fund 5 is open for applications from residents in Preston.

It aims to provide crisis support to vulnerable households in most need, helping with the cost of essentials.

Since May, 575 households including families with children, pensioners, disabled residents, and others have been helped through the scheme.

Preston City Council say they have spend around £313,000 towards food vouchers, utility bills, white goods and flooring and have also assisted the food hubs and food banks in Preston with more than £130,000.

The deadline for applying is Monday 30 September but is subject to change if the scheme runs out of funds.

To be eligible, applicants must live in the Preston area and only one application per household will be considered. All applications must be supported with bank statements for all adults in the household and for all accounts held.

Funding is aimed at anyone who cannot pay for essentials however, you do not have to be receiving benefits to get help from your local council.

If you get a payment from the Household Support Fund and you receive benefits, they will not be affected.

Councillor Nweeda Khan, cabinet member for health and wellbeing said: “Schemes like the Household Support Fund are intended to help those who need help and support during these difficult times, and I would urge all eligible residents in need of help and assistance with energy and water bills, food and essential items to apply.”
