The United States will provide nearly $157 million in new humanitarian aid to assist populations affected by conflict in Lebanon and the broader region, the US State Department announced on Friday.

“This funding will address new and existing needs of internally displaced persons and refugee populations inside Lebanon and the communities that host them. The assistance will also support those fleeing to neighbouring Syria,” the State Department said in its statement.

The announcement comes as Lebanon continues to struggle with the effects of ongoing regional conflict, including the fallout from the Syrian civil war and other crises. The United States’ latest humanitarian efforts aim to alleviate some of the burdens faced by displaced individuals and refugees across these conflict zones.
