A board games café is to open in the centre of Preston opposite Preston’s Market Hall.

The Dice Box has taken on the former TSB bank unit at the front of the St John’s Shopping Arcade facing into Lancaster Road.

Part of a growing national chain the man behind taking on the franchise in Preston is Chris Hunt.

He told Blog Preston: “We’re really excited to be bringing the Dice Box to Preston, creating an inclusive venue for students, families, friends and enthusiasts to play board games, while enjoying delicious food & drinks. We will start with over 500 games ranging in complexity and age range, and have staff on hand to help choose games, and teach rules.

“We’ll be running regular events where customers can get together to play their favourite games, or learn something brand new. We’ll also have a board game shop area, allowing customers to take home the fun too.

“It’s a really exciting time for Preston with lots of investment and redevelopment, and having grown up in the area, I’m delighted to be creating an inclusive space for board gamers, in the centre of the city. We’re currently finalising the lease, so hope to commence the fit out soon and be open in the next few months.”

The Dice Box began in Leamington Spa and is now trying to take its concept to other places in the UK opening in Worcester and Peterborough recently.

As part of opening Chris has applied to Preston City Council for an alcohol licence aiming to serve from 11am to 11pm on weekdays and 10am to 11pm on a Saturday and 10pm to 9pm on a Sunday.
