Preston is set to become a hub for tech enthusiasts as a new group focused on digital technologies hosts its first event this month.

Founded by Neon Mountain and Society1, Preston Tech Connection brings together individuals interested in exploring and discussing emerging technologies, including software, hardware, programming, and future tech.

The first event will be held at Society1, a co-working space in the heart of Preston, and is titled Virtual Reality: Real World Impact.

Attendees will explore the future of VR, AR, and XR, and how these technologies are shaping our social lives and industries. The event will be an informal, interactive meetup with a chance to chat, exchange ideas, and meet like-minded individuals.

Tom Crawley, a software developer and founder of Neon Mountain, will facilitate the discussion, drawing on his 25 years of experience in the tech world. Tom is eager to get the conversation started and hear thoughts from attendees on the impact of virtual reality.

Preston Tech Connection aims to be an inclusive community, welcoming everyone, whether or not they work in tech. The group is committed to creating a space for collaboration, innovation, and learning, with future events including guest speakers, workshops, and networking opportunities.

Society1’s Catarina King told Blog Preston: “Preston Tech Connection came from a chat between Tom and me. We thought it would be exciting to get a tech community going in the city. There is lots happening in the scene right now so it feels like a good time.

“Tom has lots of connections through his work and at Society1 we have the perfect space to host events and meet-ups. Tom works out of Society1 so we have a great relationship and thought it would be a positive thing to get behind.”

Catarina added: “At the first event, we plan to share our ideas and aspirations for Preston Tech Connection and welcome ideas from attendees around what they would like to see.”

Virtual Reality: Real World Impact will take place on Thursday 10 October from 6pm to 7.30pm at Society1 in Cross Street. Refreshments will be provided.
