Attention, coffee lovers! If you’ve been sipping your morning brew from a Stanley tumbler, you might want to check which one you’ve got.
Health Canada shared a product recall on Thursday for several popular Stanley mug models due to a potential burn hazard, with several injuries reported so far.
The recall affects seven different styles of Stanley mugs sold in Canada between May 2016 and December 2024.
According to Health Canada, the lids on these mugs can shrink when exposed to heat, causing them to pop off unexpectedly. This defect has led to reports of spills and at least three burn injuries in Canada and the U.S.

- The Trigger-Action Travel Mug (12 oz / 350 mL) – 20-02033
- The Trigger-Action Travel Mug (20 oz / 590 mL) – 20-02034
- The Trigger-Action Travel Mug 2 Pack (16 oz / 470 mL) – 20-02030
- The Trigger-Action Travel Mug 2 Pack (20 oz / 590 mL) – 20-02034
Stanley says that a total of 184,170 units were sold across Canada, so if you think you might own one, double-check the product details.
What should you do?
If your Stanley cup is on the list, Health Canada recommends you stop using it immediately. You can contact Stanley for a free replacement lid and instructions on how to safely dispose of the defective one.
Getting your replacement is easy — you can submit a claim at the official recall page here. You’ll need to tell them which product you have and upload a photo of your mug. Once your claim is approved, they’ll send you a new lid for free, including shipping.
Health Canada is also reminding consumers that it’s illegal to resell or give away recalled products in Canada. If you’ve experienced any safety issues with these mugs, you’re encouraged to report them through Health Canada’s Consumer Product Incident Report Form.
