It was a great weekend for most top Nigerian players abroad last weekend as a couple of them helped their clubs secure the maximum three points before Christmas.

The usual suspects like Victor Osimhen, the reigning African Player of the Year winner, Ademola Lookman, and Tolu Arokodare were on the scoresheet for respective teams last weekend.

Below are the top Nigerian players who helped their respective clubs win games last weekend:

Victor Osimhen (Galatasaray):

In a spectacular display of skill and poise, Victor Osimhen contributed significantly to Galatasaray’s dominance in the Turkish Super Lig, scoring two goals in their resounding 5-1 victory over Kayserispor on Sunday.

The 25-year-old forward opened the scoring from the penalty spot just four minutes into the match, displaying his composure under pressure.

His second goal came later in the game, as he showcased his finishing ability with a well-placed shot in the second half to bring his tally to nine goals and three assists in just 11 league matches.

Across all competitions, Osimhen has been a vital asset for the Turkish giants, amassing 12 goals and five assists in 15 games since his much-publicized loan move in January, effectively reinforcing his reputation as one of the league’s top talents.

David Okereke (Gaziantep):

David Okereke is rapidly finding his stride in Turkish football, evidenced by his critical involvement in Gaziantep’s 2-0 win against Antalyaspor on Sunday, where he played for 76 minutes.

The Nigerian striker displayed his vision and teamwork by providing the assist for Gaziantep’s opener, expertly setting up Kacper Kozlowski just before halftime.

Following that, he continued to be pivotal in the attack, as Kozlowski turned playmaker to assist Alexandru Maxim, who sealed the victory with the second goal. This performance not only highlighted Okereke’s growing influence within the team but also his ability to elevate his fellow players on the pitch.

Ademola Lookman (Atalanta):

Fresh off being crowned the CAF Player of The Year, Ademola Lookman returned to the starting XI for Atalanta as they battled to a thrilling 3-2 victory against Empoli, which allowed them to widen their lead in Serie A by two points.

Lookman was instrumental in this match, scoring an important goal just before halftime that brought Atalanta back from an initial deficit, making the score 2-1.

His impressive season continues, as he now boasts nine goals and four assists in 14 league appearances. Before kickoff, Lookman proudly displayed his CAF Player of The Year Award at Gewiss Stadium, signalling his status as a key player and a source of inspiration for his teammates as they navigate the competitive Serie A landscape.

Tolu Arokodare (Genk):

In a showcase of resilience, Tolu Arokodare played a crucial role in Genk’s path to victory against Anderlecht, helping them bounce back from a previous week’s defeat to defending champions Club Brugge.

The Nigerian striker was both a scorer and a provider in their 2-0 victory at the Cegeka Arena. He opened the scoring in the 29th minute, marking his 11th goal of the season in just 19 appearances, further establishing himself as a key offensive threat.

Later in the match, Arokodare displayed his playmaking abilities by setting up Konstantinos Karetsas, who netted the second goal 18 minutes from time.

With this performance, Arokodare is now just one goal away from matching his total from last season, as Genk firmly positions themselves in the title race with a substantial 41 points after 19 matches.
