Three new murals are to be painted in the Fishwick and St Matthews area of the city this year.
Preston artist Shawn Sharpe has secured funding for his new Big Local Mural Project.
He announced on his Facebook page: “Excited to announce that I was successful in getting funding with Big Local FAM Preston,” and he added that “the big local mural project will start this year”.
Shawn Sharpe has done multiple murals around Preston city centre including the woman with the lamb outside of Hogarth’s Gin Bar and his modern depiction of the famous “Pauline in the yellow dress” on Friargate as well as his most recent mural ‘Diamond Days’ near the Bus Station.
Shawn Sharpe is mostly known for his Preston-centric art, with many of his murals featuring Preston’s signature lamb; a symbol of pride for the city.
This is a wider collaboration with Big Local Fishwick and St Matthews (FAM), a local trust which helps in supporting community projects.
The project will consist of workshops for selected residents of the Fishwick and St Matthews area, and will ultimately result in three new murals in the area. Mr Sharpe is appealing to anyone in the area who may be willing to let him use their walls in order to create the murals.
Fishwick and Frenchwood councillor Valerie Wise has dubbed it “an excellent proposal”
She said: “I think the murals that have already gone up in the town are amazing…(it’s) really important to involve local people.”
