A number of train services will not run on Friday as Storm Éowyn lands in the North West.
Both Avanti West Coast and Northern Rail are advising customers to avoid travelling where possible with the latter confirming that a number of services will not be operating.
These include trains from the Lake District through Preston to Manchester Airport and Blackpool North through Preston on to York.

Avanti are advising customers to avoid travelling north of Preston.
A spokesperson for Avanti West Coast said: “We’re advising customers not to travel north of Preston or on our North Wales route on Friday 24 January due to the expected disruption by Storm Éowyn. Elsewhere in the UK, there is still a risk of disruption to your journey due to the impact of Storm Éowyn.
“We strongly recommend that you check before you travel.
“If you are due to travel north of Preston or on our North Wales route on Friday 24 January, then your existing ticket can be used on any Avanti West Coast service via the same route from Thursday 23 January until the end of service on Sunday 26 January.
“Alternatively, if you abandoned your journey as a result of the disruption, then you can claim a fee free refund from where you bought your ticket. If you continued with your journey but were delayed by 15 minutes or more, you can claim Delay Repay compensation from the train company you travelled with.”
A spokesperson for Northern Rail said: “We are expecting severe disruption from Storm Éowyn on Friday 24 January
“We advise customers to avoid travelling where possible on Friday 24 January, if you do choose to travel make sure you check before travelling as trains may be cancelled at very short notice with onward connection not possible.
“Try not to rely on the last services of the day, as they may be cancelled, and bad weather may restrict road transport.”
Both companies strongly advise that you check your service is running before leaving the house on Friday.
