Where's hot in Europe in April?

If you're keen to stick closer to home for your April escape, you're in luck. Spain has several balmy locales to choose between (including stunning Seville). Or you could hop across the Med to Greece to explore Athens in the spring sunshine.

1. Athens, Greece

  • Average temperature in April: 16°C

You can’t really go wrong with visiting Greece at any time of year. The country is a hot spot for incredible trips away (especially beach breaks) and, of course, has very favourable weather for most of the year. But where is hot in Greece in April? Heading to its magnificent capital of Athens is always a safe bet.

Spend your days stepping back in time at various ancient sites like the Acropolis and the Temple of Athena. Temperatures are perfect for exploring the ruins, with average highs sitting at a comfy 19°C. You might experience the odd rain shower in April. If that does happen, simply take shelter in one of the city's fantastic museums. My favourite is the treasure trove that is the National Archaeological Museum.

2. Palma de Mallorca, Spain

  • Average temperature in April: 15°C

It is a well-known fact that the Balearic Islands can get pretty hot, making them pretty much an all-year-round sun destination. April is a lovely month to visit, though, thanks to fewer crowds and less intense temperatures in the mid to high teens.

If you're a fan of hiking and enjoying delicious local meals al fresco with ocean views, Mallorca is one of the best islands to visit. It's well-known for its golden beaches and pretty seaside cities like Palma de Mallorca. It's brimming with traditional dining spots where you can enjoy seafood with local wines.

Speaking of wine, why not venture into the island's interiors to sample some at local bodegas? Alternatively, you can enjoy a wine tour in the city's picturesque Old Town.

Mallorca's undulating hills and sea breezes attract cyclists and hikers alike. This is especially true in April when milder temperatures make exploring its jaw-dropping landscapes much more pleasant. If you want to avoid the school holiday crowds, visit later in April once the summer term has started.

3. Seville, Spain

  • Average temperature in April: 16°C

Wondering where is hot in April in Spain? The Andalusian city of Seville is a brilliant spot for a spring getaway. It is a stunning destination with impressive architecture, delicious tapas and heaps of flamenco bars.

There’s no better time to appreciate just how beautiful this city is than under the warm April sun and with considerably less crowds than in the summer months. You might encounter a tiny bit of rain during your trip - but that shouldn't deter you from taking a trip to Seville.

Temperatures can comfortably reach the low 20s, so you're bound to have a few sunny days where you can dine alfresco and stroll the gorgeous gardens of the Real Alcázar.

Where's hot in April around the rest of the world

While things are definitely warming up in Europe, countries south of the equator will be cooling down. Still, that shouldn't stop you from exploring Africa and Southeast Asia, as some parts will still be very warm in April.

4. Marrakech, Morocco

If you're looking for where is hot in April with a shorter flight, Marrakech fits the bill. This vibrant Moroccan city is a brilliant place to visit in spring for history, culture and fantastic shopping opportunities in local bazaars. Temperatures on the warmest days can easily exceed 23°C, making it a fantastic destination for a sunny break, too.

A little bit of rain can be expected. The upside of this, though, is that it makes the city's gardens lush with spring blooms, including the elegant grounds of Koutoubia Mosque. Additionally, you'll likely still find flights and accommodation much cheaper compared to summer — which is all the more reason to book a break to Marrakech in April.

5. Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam

Average temperature in April: 30°C

If it's heat you're craving in April, there's no better corner of the world to head for than Southeast Asia. Specifically, Vietnam which is right at the end of its high season during this month. Temperatures often climb into the 30s but there's still just a low chance of rain, especially if you choose to explore its capital.

Ho Chi Minh City is a great city in its own right but also a popular spot to begin a larger tour of the entire country. Many of its attractions relate to the Vietnam War, including the moving War Remnants Museum. You could also barter for cheap souvenirs at historic Ben Thanh Market. And if the heat starts to get to you? There's plenty of cool coffee shops and bars to dip into for an ice cold drink. Don't forget to try a banh mi (or three), either. These delicious sandwiches hail from HCMC and you'll find lots of places where you can sample the real deal.

Recommendation ranking of cities:

Our recommendation ranking of where to go is calculated based on the presented five factors: average flight prices, average hotel prices, average, high temperatures, average low temperatures, and average precipitation. Flight prices, hotel prices, and precipitation constitute inverse factors, meaning the lower the better. All factors are equally weighted.

From the ranked destination lists, destination exclusions may have been applied in cases of insufficient data or according to the official travel advisory at the time when the data analysis was conducted.

Flight and hotel prices:

Average prices are estimated from KAYAK internal data from the search period ‘2024/10/03 to 2025/01/03’ for the travel period ‘2024/10/03 to 2025/01/03.'. Flight prices include economy class return trips for one traveller, and hotel prices represent the nightly rates for a standard double room for hotels with three stars or below. Price insights may vary depending on the exact departure airport and over time as travel dates are approaching.

Weather (monthly average, high and low temperatures, and average precipitation):

Weather data is pulled from a third-party site, Weatherbase, and has not been verified by KAYAK. Monthly average temperature and precipitation data are based on historical insights from the past 102 years. Weatherbase data is updated in real-time from the US Census Bureau and other databases worldwide.
