Moss was spotted on ESPN’s NFL Countdown with yellow eyes in November[/caption]
Back in November, fans were worried about Moss’s health when his eyes appeared yellow during a broadcast of ESPN’s NFL Live.
Moss eventually announced his health on social media in December, telling fans on an Instagram Live video alongside his sons that he was battling bile duct cancer and underwent a six-hour operation.
As he continues to battle cancer, Moss got to hand out the NFL’s Comebacker Player of the Year award.
The award is given to a player who performed after facing adversity, whether it was an injury, illness, etc, that led to missing games the season prior.
Moss won the award in 2007 after recording 23 touchdowns that year, and he presented the award via video.
“Good morning everybody. How y’all doing? It is great to talk to you tonight,” the 47-year-old started.
Moss then opened up on his cancer battle.
“I’m sorry I could not be there in person to join you all, but I want to send a special thank you to all of my doctors, my beautiful wife, my children, my family, my teammates, and all the prayer warriors out there.
“We are facing cancer and I cannot wait to get back on television with all my guys.”
After bringing up the fact he won the award with the New England Patriots 17 years ago, he said, “There’s no better story in the National Football League than the one about a player who does big things, overcome adversity, and face obstacles, but ultimately find their way back to the mountaintop.”
Moss then presented the five nominees for the honor: Minnesota Vikings’ Sam Darnold, Cincinnati Bengals’ Joe Burrow, Los Angeles Chargers’ JK Dobbins, Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin, and New England Patriots’ Christian Gonzalez.
And he unveiled the winner was the star quarterback Joe Burrow, who has won the award for a second time.
Burrow accepted the award and joked, “I wouldn’t say this is necessarily an award you want to be nominated for two times.”
But the 28-year-old then thanked the people who helped him recover after he suffered a season-ending wrist injury in 2023.
“I’m proud of the world that I’ve put to come back from these injuries that I seem to face every year. Fortunately, I’m healthy this year,” Burrow said.
“I have a great team around me. My physical therapist Nick, all of our trainers at the Bengals, my trainer back in the offseason.
“We put together a great plan to help me go out and play my best on Sundays and come back from these injuries stronger.
“So thanks, guys. It’s an honor. Thank you.”
Burrow led the NFL in passing touchdowns (43) and passing yards (4,918) in 17 started games after missing seven games the previous injury due to injury.
He has missed 14 games because of injuries during his five-year career – and two of those campaigns saw him suffer season-ending injuries.
