Inside The Village Teapot in Walmer Bridge

Mummy and daughter Thursday had come round again, with our usual toddler group in the morning followed by B falling asleep in the car. Only this time, transition from car seat to cot failed miserably, and my two-hour break lasted eight minutes. To take my mind off it (inside I’m panicking), I considered our next steps and thought it might be a good idea to go out for lunch.

I’d been to The Village Teapot before but only for coffee and cake, and once for breakfast, the day after I got married in 2018. So it was about time I tried more of the menu whilst taking advantage of their lovely little play corner, which is always useful to keep little one occupied before and after the food arrives.

Lovely Play Corner at The Village Teapot on Liverpool Old Road

Located at 63 Liverpool Old Road in Walmer Bridge, the cafe has a floral shabby chic decor. Upon arrival there were a few tables taken by couples and families, so it was a nice, relaxed atmosphere. We were welcomed by a friendly member of staff and headed over to a table near the play corner. High chairs and lovely baby changing facilities are available.

B went off to play whilst I browsed the menu and ordered. Breakfast is served until 11.30am, and there’s something for everyone on the menu with great kids options and a selection of cakes on the counter. Daily specials are also available. B had already requested peas, so I ordered her the Sausage, Chips and Peas (£5.95) from the kids menu, and I chose a Sweet Chilli Chicken Wrap (£8.50) from the specials menu, with an Iced Vanilla Latte as I already knew how good they were.

After reading Ten Little Dinosaurs and a couple of Peppa Pig books, our food arrived. B’s was served on a children’s dinosaur tray, which she loved, and I was pleased to see some toddler cutlery as not many places provide it. We chopped up the sausage together before she started on her favourite food… Peas.

Review: Toys, tantrums and a tasty menu at Playspace in Penwortham

The chicken in my wrap was juicy and crunchy yet tender and there was a lot of it. It was very tasty but could’ve just done with a little less sweet chilli sauce as it was dripping out everywhere. It was served with crisps, a sweet side salad and a homemade coleslaw which was yum, but may benefit from further chopping as the long pieces of cabbage kept painting my face with the mayo mix. My lunch was pretty saucy.

B ate most of her peas (with some hitting the floor of course), most of the sausage, and some of the chips so this meant she enjoyed it. Hoorah. Mummy was allowed to try the sausage and chips which were “oooh yummy” and a nice treat for a toddler lunch.

The total for our lunch was £18.45, which was a reasonable price for a tasty lunch, lovely service and playtime for B and I would not hesitate in going to this family friendly cafe again and again whether it be for lunch, breakfast or cake. The Village Teapot also do afternoon teas, which I shall try at some point, and they do outside catering as well.

Found a very family friendly cafe? Let me know, I’d love to try it.
