Canadians spend over $7 billion a year on lottery tickets, yet the odds of you winning the jackpot are approximately 14 million to one. But is there a way to boost your chances?
A new analysis might offer some clues. After crunching 16 years of lottery data, researchers at CasinoDays recently revealed Canada’s “luckiest” lotto numbers (based on the most commonly drawn digits). CasinoDays counted how often each lotto number came up and ranked them in descending order based on frequency. The data was collected in January 2025.
Topping the list is 23, which has been drawn a whopping 232 times since 2009. This makes it the most frequently drawn number across all Canadian lotteries.
With that in mind, here are Canada’s 10 luckiest lotto numbers:
What’s even more interesting is that several of these lucky numbers have already appeared in 2025’s winning draws, including 45, 10, 4, 21, 22, 38, and 8. Looks like they’re making their presence known early.
However, not all numbers are equally lucky. Apparently, 32 holds the title of the least lucky number, having been drawn only 180 times over the same period. Close behind is 14, which appears just 182 times — and carries an unfortunate cultural association with bad luck in some parts of the world.
If you’re a believer in astrology, celebrity psychic Inbaal Honigman says Gemini and Cancer might have the best chance at a lucky 2025 with numerology suggesting these two signs are in line for a good year:
“Geminis and Cancers have just five months to secure their big lottery win. For the first half of the year, Jupiter, the planet of fortune and wealth, will be in Gemini, bringing financial success, unexpected windfalls, and lucky breaks. But after June 9, Jupiter moves into Cancer, shifting its blessings to the sign of the crab for the rest of the year.”
At the end of the day, though, there’s no surefire way to guarantee a win. But mixing frequently drawn numbers into your picks or joining a lottery pool could boost your chances. After all, a Lotto Max winner recently walked away with a $25 million jackpot, and their ticket contained a number from the “luckiest” list.
