Giants CB Janoris Jenkins ready for rematches with Cowboys WR Dez Bryant

Jenkins got the best of the matchups last season.

EAST RUTHERFORD — Giants cornerback Janoris Jenkins doesn’t believe he revealed too much information when he provided a detailed breakdown of his approach to covering Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant.

“Man, listen, football is football. It’s not about a game plan,” Jenkins said on Thursday. “Everyone has their own way of attacking each person. I’m not saying that I’m going to go out there and attack him like that this year. I just gave a little clue and that was it.”

Jenkins provided more than a little clue when he told a Dallas radio station in February exactly how he shut down Bryant in two matchups last season. Bryant was targeted seven times while covered by Jenkins last season, resulting in five incompletions, one interception and one completion that was immediately stripped.

Jenkins described specific route and formation tendencies that he looked for against the Cowboys. He even added a dig at Bryant’s speed, saying, “Everything’s got to be a double move to get him open because he’s not fast.”

Not surprisingly, Jenkins’ comments didn’t sit well with Bryant. The three-time Pro Bowl receiver fired back months later, tweeting that the Giants played Cover 5 most of the games and that he will embarrass Jenkins in a 1-on-1 matchup.

Jenkins got the last word, tweeting that “when you speak facts everybody get mad.” He then listed Bryant’s paltry stat line in the two meetings last season.

After realizing that he had responded to a story that was more than two months old, Bryant said he “jumped the gun” with his inflammatory tweet. But he added, “I’m still looking forward to our battle.”

Updated depth chart

Bryant and Jenkins don’t have to wait long, as the Giants open the season in Dallas on Sunday Night Football on Sept. 10.

“Everyone is going to talk, man,” Jenkins said. “I just said that facts are facts and I just leave stuff as that. I understand that Dez likes to compete and I like to compete. There’s not any bad blood. It’s just all about competition and having fun.”

Jenkins, who earned All-Pro honors last season, isn’t shy about talking trash. He called receiver Terrelle Pryor a “Sh*t Eater” after the Giants beat the Browns last November. Pryor signed with the Redskins in March, setting up two showdowns with Jenkins this season.

Jenkins is ready for Bryant, Pryor and every other receiver he’ll face this season.

“I go each week ready to compete no matter who it is, no matter the size or the quickness,” Jenkins said. “I just look forward to doing my job.”
