Innocent ‘2Baba’ Idibia will lead an all-star lineup that includes Baba Dee, DJ Jimmy Jatt, Faze, Black Face, Larry Gaaga, Jaywon, Vector, Basket Mouth, among many others, performing at the fourth edition of Festac Music Festival in honour of his long-time friend Olanrewaju’ Sound Sultan‘ Fasasi.
The festival will hold on Thursday, December 30, 2021.
Other acts confirmed include Kenny Blaq, Do2dtun, Efe Warri Boy, and Tome, who said Sound Sultan influenced her music.
Sound Sultan, the talented creative who used his music to address social issues and correct society’s ills, died of Angioimmunoblastic T-cell Lymphoma (AITL) on July 11, 2021. He was buried the same day in Brooklyn, New York. He was 44 years old.
In the early 2000s, the Nigerian hip-hop music scene was dominated by music artistes from Festac, a semi-middle class community in Amuwo-Odofin LGA.
Baba Dee, Sound Sultan, Azadus, the defunct music group – Plantashun Boiz, which comprised of 2Baba, Faze and Blackface, and Jaywon, are some of the most prominent artistes who rose from Festac. The town will be agog on Thursday as an array of stars headline this year’s music festival that will pay tribute to Sound Sultan and his remarkable life.
“The event in the past has featured leading Nigerian musicians like 2Baba, Daddy Showkey, Idris Adbul Kareem, Jesse Jagz, 9ice and a host of other top musicians across the nation,” says Dare’ Baba Dee’ Fasasi, the Festival Director and Chief Executive of Naija Ninja.
“This year’s Festac music festival promises to be an exciting musical atmosphere that will pay special tribute to late Sound Sultan.”
The tribute concert is coming five months after NECLive collaborated with The Fasasi family, friends, colleagues and fans of Sound Sultan to host an evening of music, poetry, dance, comedy and talk in honour and celebration of Sound Sultan.
