MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) — The third round of snow in three days rolled across Minnesota Sunday. The WCCO Weather Team says snow totals will be similar to the last two rounds, but it will have a bigger travel impact for several reasons.
The system will leave most areas with an inch of fresh snow. However, the Twin Cities could see slightly more, with the system exiting the area by midnight.
There’s already been over 3 inches of snow in the metro area since Friday. Southeastern Minnesota might see as much as 3 inches stack up.
Augustyniak says Monday morning’s commute should be quite slippery and will result in many spinouts; some light snow could even still be falling in parts of the south metro on south through 6 a.m. or 7 a.m.
By Monday evening, the highways should be better, but there will likely still be snow-covered secondary roads.
Still, Monday will be one of the warmer days of the week, with high temps reaching 16 degrees. The bottom falls out on Tuesday, temperature-wise.
That means Tuesday’s commutes could also be dicey. Tuesday morning’s cold temperatures may result in black ice and a lot of crashes once again. Tuesday evening’s commute will be slick as well, because highs will barely reach zero during the day.
Then, Tuesday night into Wednesday morning will likely end up one of the five coldest nights of the season, with overnight lows in the negative mid-teens.
The next light snow chance is Thursday, and the cold will hold on heading into next weekend.
