A fire near the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company’s (ADNOC) storage tanks led to an explosion on Monday morning, Abu Dhabi Police confirmed in a statement carried by the official WAM news agency.
Preliminary investigations suggest that drones could have caused the fire, according to WAM.
A smaller fire was also reported in the new construction area of Abu Dhabi International Airport.
No significant damage was reported. A full investigation has been launched into the cause of the fires.
