AMAA 2022: Man of God, Swallow Receive Multiple Nominations. Here’s Full List of Nominees

The Africa Film Academy has announced the list of nominees for the 2022 Africa Movie Academy Awards (AMAA) as Bolanle Austen-Peters-directed movie “Man of God” and Kunle Afolayan-directed movie “Swallow” lead nominations.

Man of God, a movie directed by Bolanle Austen-Peters, bagged nine nominations. It was nominated for the Best Achievement In Costume Design, Best Achievement In Soundtrack, Achievement In Editing, Best Nigeria Film, Best Actress In a Supporting Role, Best Actor In A Leading Role, Best Actress In A Leading Role, Best Director and Best Film.

The Nollywood film centres on a pastor’s son, Samuel (Akah Nnani), who forsook his religion because of his harsh religious upbringing. However, his love for money made him go into fake ministry while posing as a man of God. 

In 2020, the award-winning movie director, Bolanle Austen Peters, was nominated at the AMAAs for the Best First Feature Film by a Director and Best Nigerian Film category for Bling Lagosians. She has also directed other blockbuster films, including Collision Course which earned her the award for Best Director Film, Best Movie West Africa and Best Overall Movie at the 2022 Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards (AMVCA).

Swallow, a movie directed by Kunle Afolayan, received seven nominations, including Best Achievement In Production Design, Best Achievement In Costume Design, Best Achievement In Sound, Best Nigerian Film, Best Actress In a Supporting Role, Best Actor In A Leading Role, and Best Actress In A Leading Role. Swallow, an adaptation of Seffi Atta’s book, tells the story of a naive secretary who considers working as a drug mule for her roommate after multiple career woes.

Nigerian comedian and actor Josh 2 Funny was nominated for the Best Actor In A Supporting Role for his role in Obi Emelonye’s latest action-comedy ‘Money Miss Road.’ Other Nigerian actors nominated include Wale Ojo (A Song From The Dark) and Segun Arinze (Almajiri).
