After police and emergency services were called to the scene at Sydney Road, the street was blocked off last night.

Detectives were later called to the scene and launched an investigation.

Police told 9News that based on initial and limited inquiries, the deadly shooting was "targeted" but stressed there is no danger to the community.

"We believe this was a targeted attack over an incident or an issue that we are looking into," Police Commissioner Col Blanch said.

"There is a lot of evidence to continue to collect, CCTV, dashcams (and) multiple witnesses to be spoken to."

Detectives said they are still collecting intelligence to formally identify the victim.

"It is very, very early in the piece and we're still collecting information and intelligence with regards to the identity of the person, or persons, involved," a police spokesman said.

A crime scene has been set up and there are restrictions for nearby roads.

Police have also established Operation Geonosis to prevent potential revenge attacks.

Witnesses of the incident are anyone with information should contact WA Police.
