Burna Boy made history again as he bagged two Grammy nominations on Tuesday, November 10, 2022, thereby tying with Afrobeat legend Femi Kuti as the most-nominated Nigerian artiste in Grammy history with six nominations.

The music star was nominated for Best Global Music Performance for his hit single, ‘Last Last’ and his latest album, ‘Love, Damini’ was also nominated for Best Global album. He has achieved this for his last two albums ‘African Giant’ and ‘Twice As Tall’.

As a result of his success, the recording academy would be awarding the producers, engineers, and mixers associated with the nominated work in addition to the recording artistes.

Telz

When mentioning one of the top producers in Nigeria, Alli ‘Telz’ Odunayo deserves a feature on that list. The 26-year-old producer and songwriter debuted in the industry in 2018, and it has been astounding to see his growth thus far. 

Since his emergence in the industry, he has produced multiple hit singles, including Patoranking’s ‘Abule’, Fireboy DML’s ‘Ashawo’, Burna Boy’s ‘Onyeka’, and many more. In 2020, he earned his first grammy recognition with Burna Boy‘s Grammy award-winning album ‘Twice As Tall’. He produced the tracks Wetin Dey Sup, Naughty By Nature, Wonderful, and Onyeka.

 

Kel P

‘Its Kel P vibes’ is one of the most iconic producer taglines in Nigeria. Udoma Peter Kelvin Amba popularly known as Kel P, is a Nigerian record producer, singer, and songwriter. 

In the five years of his career, he has produced hit singles like “Dangote” by Burna Boy, “Peace of Mind” by Rema, “Jeje” by Diamond Platnumz, “Boda Sodiq” & “Fantasy” by Niniola, and “Ghetto Love” by Wizkid, amongst others.

On November 23, 2021, he got his first Grammy Award nomination with Wizkid’s album ‘Made in Lagos (Deluxe)’ but won the same category Best Global Music Album for Angélique Kidjo’s album ‘Mother Nature.’

 

Chopstix

Olagundoye James Malcolm popularly known as Chopstix rose to prominence after his collaborations with Ice Prince, especially on his 2012 hit record ‘Aboki’.

He has worked with Burna Boy on multiple projects as a songwriter and producer. He has also worked on songs like ‘Outside’ and ‘Rockstar’. This grammy nomination marks his first nomination.

Burna Boy is nominated for the Best Global Album category alongside Berklee Indian Ensemble, Angelique Kidjo & Ibrahim Maalouf, Anoushka Shankar, Metropole Orkest & Jules Buckley featuring Manu Delago and Masa Tukami.
