Three gunmen have been gunned down by a team of vigilant Police operatives during a failed attempt to attack a Police facility in Anambra State Police.
LEADERSHIP learnt that the gunmen were killed in the early hours of Monday when their gang made attempt to attack Awada Police Station near Obosi town in Idemili North local government area of the State.
While the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Ikenga Tochukwu, was yet to respond to inquiries concerning the incident as at the time of filing this report, however, Press Secretary to the Governor of Anambra State, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, Mr. Christian Aburime, confirmed the development.
Aburime posted corpses of the neutralised hoodlums on his WhatsApp platform, saying, “Again, in the early hours of today 20/02/23 these evil people, arsonist and murderers (UGM), made another deadly attempt to burn down Awada Police Station, near Obosi, Anambra State.
“They were repelled by gallant security personnel with 3 members of the gang taken down after exchange of gun battle
“Two AK 47 were recovered with the vehicles used for the failed operation by the gang.”
Meanwhile, the killing of the three gunmen on Monday has brought to nine number of hoodlums sent to their untimely graves less than 24 hours by gallant Police operatives keeping vigil in the State in the wake of attacks on police stations across the state by gangs of rampaging gunmen.
On Sunday, six gunmen were killed by a police team as their gang attempted to burn down the 3-3 police station at Nkwellezunaka area of Oyi local government area of the State.
Also, less than 24 hours before the 3-3 police station attack, a gang of hoodlums had stormed Ogidi Police Division and killed three police officers, after bombing the Division with Improvement Explosive Devices (IEDs), including petrol bombs, among others.
