Google Fi has announced that it is adding eSIM support to select Samsung Galaxy smartphones. The Google Fi eSIM support was first introduced with the Google Pixel 2 series when they were bought through Fi. Later, Google Fi support was expanded to Pixel 3 and 3a. Then, with the Pixel 4 series, Google Fi eSIM support was available across all Pixel devices.
In fact, even the Pixel Watch supports the Google Fi eSIM. However, up until now, it was only limited to Pixel devices. Now, in a sneaky update on the support page, Google Fi has confirmed that eSIM support is coming to select Galaxy devices. Do note that in order to take advantage of the Google Fi eSIM, your Galaxy phone needs to be running Android 13 (One UI 5.0 or new).
Starting off the list is the recently launched Galaxy S23 series. Here is the complete list of Google Fi-supported Galaxy smartphones:
- Galaxy S23
- Galaxy S23+
- Galaxy S23 Ultra
- Galaxy S22
- Galaxy S22+
- Galaxy S22 Ultra
- Galaxy S21
- Galaxy S21+
- Galaxy S21 Ultra
- Galaxy S20
- Galaxy S20+
- Galaxy S20 Ultra
- Galaxy Note 20
- Galaxy Note 20 Ultra
- Galaxy Z Fold 4
- Galaxy Z Flip 4
- Galaxy Z Flip 3
So, if you are a Google Fi subscriber and own any of the before-mentioned Galaxy devices, then you no longer need to rely on a physical SIM. You can easily set up the Google Fi eSIM by connecting your Galaxy device to Wi-Fi, heading to the Play Store, and downloading the Google Fi app. Sign in with the Google account that you use with Google Fi. Hit the Continue button when asked to activate Google Fi.
It is unclear whether Google Fi eSIM support will be expanded to more Samsung devices in the coming future or not. Also, for some reason, the Galaxy Z Fold 3 is nowhere to be seen on the Google Fi eSIM list of supported Galaxy devices.
