Prominent Nigerian TV show host IK Osakioduwa is set to etch his name in the entertainment industry’s history books as the first host of a major event at The Apollo in Harlem. Organisers recently announced Osakioduwa will anchor the ‘Naija To The World – the Niger Delta Experience’ concert which will tell previously untold stories of lived experiences of the people from Nigeria’s oil-rich south-south region.

Osakioduwa, with a wealth of experience in hosting the biggest events in Africa, is expected to display the masterful hosting skill that has made him a fan-favourite over the last two decades. From his successful time as a radio show host to standing on the biggest stages as a witty compere, Osakioduwa is popular for his distinctive ability to balance humour and respect in any conversation.

A Niger Delta native, the host is reputable for his smooth talking and audience-engaging quips — attributes that have seen him take up hosting duties for acclaimed shows including Big Brother Africa, The Voice, Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards (AMVCA), Nigerian Idol, and many more.

The compere said, “I am incredibly honoured to be a part of this groundbreaking event at the iconic Apollo Theatre. It’s a privilege to be trusted to amplify the voices and experiences of the people from my own homeland. I can’t wait to bring my hosting skills to the stage and create an unforgettable experience for both the performers and the audience.”

In line with the theme of the event, Osakioduwa will usher attendees into the world of Niger Delta’s indigenous people who continue to surmount various obstacles to rise to global stardom. The host’s wit will present a perfect backdrop for a star-studded line-up of Nigerian musicians such as Timi Dakolo, Omawumi, Timaya, KCee, and pantomimic dance group, Seki Dance Drama to showcase the region’s rich culture and creativity.

Sharing his excitement on what concertgoers can expect from the line-up of performers, BHM Founder, Ayeni Adekunle said, “We couldn’t be more excited about the lineup of stars that will grace the concert at the Thollo. From the journeys of these creative talents in a peculiar region like the Niger Delta, we believe that the world has a lot more to learn from Nigerian culture beyond just marvelling at the beautiful sound of our music.”

Chief Executive Officer of Buckwyld Media Network, Efe Omorogbe, corroborating Ayeni, also said ‘Naija To The World – the Niger Delta Experience’ “will serve as a testament to the incredible reservoir of artistic brilliance present in the Niger Delta region.”

‘Naija To The World’, organisers say, is an annual exhibition that seeks to provide an alternative narrative to ‘the stories out there about Nigeria and Nigerians’.

In 2019, Burna Boy filled The Apollo’s 1,538-seat capacity for his ‘African Giant’ concert. The inaugural ‘Naija To The World’ exhibition is also expected to attract at least 1,500 concertgoers at the famous music hall, while 10 million more viewers will watch on broadcast networks across North America, Europe, Asia, and Africa.
