Police have described extremely harrowing scenes inside a Perth home where a “severely injured” woman died in a suspected case of domestic violence.

Emergency services were called to a house in the north-eastern suburb of Bedford about 5pm yesterday, where a woman was found inside with fatal injuries.

Police arrested a man in his 30s at the property, and he was known to have lived there “off and on” over a period of time, Inspector Geoff Desanges said.

Desanges said the woman was killed in an act of “extreme violence” and that paramedics and police had been offered counselling because of what they confronted.

“On arrival they located a severely injured and unresponsive woman,” he said, but paramedics couldn’t save her and she died at the scene.

“(Her) injuries were horrific,” Desanges said, adding that police “don’t believe a weapon was used.”

Desanges described the relationship between the man and dead woman as “complex”.

The woman was a mother, but police have not formally identified her yet.

Police said a man had called triple zero from the house.

Desanges confirmed officers had visited the house before last night but he would not confirm why.

The man is in police custody and the investigation is continuing.
