Victor Osimhen seems to have returned to his goalscoring form as he was among the goalscorers in Napoli’s 4-0 win over Lecce earlier today.
Since Napoli’s official TikTok page used two videos to mock the 24-year-old Nigerian striker for missing a penalty against Bologna on Sunday, September 24, Osimhen has recorded two goals in two successive games.
Before last week Sunday, the Nigeria international was on a four-game goals drought in all competitions which contradicted his prolific form in the 2022-2023 season.
Recall that last season the striker scored 26 goals and provided five assists in 32 games as he helped Napoli win the Scudetto for the first time in 33 years.
Osimhen started this season like he was on the verge of repeating the same feat or probably doing better as he scored three goals in his first two league games. But that ceased for some games giving room for people, even Napoli’s fans to start doubting his ability in front of goal.
However, the 24-year-old striker seems to have been pushed to the wall and has been talking back with goals in the last two games. Recall that Osimhen scored a goal in Napoli’s 4-1 win over Udinese on Wednesday, September 27.
In the game against Lecce earlier today, coach Rudi Garcia decided to start Osimhen from the bench in the 46th minute after the first half ended in a 1-0 lead.
He got the second goal for Napoli in the 51st minute and had the chance to score from the spot-kick but decided to allow Gianluca Gaetano to take the kick which he scored to seal the win.
The 4-0 win has pushed Napoli back to the top four with 16 points in 7 games after 4 wins, two draws and one defeat.
