Man stabbed after confronting alleged intruder in Melbourne’s south-east

A 77-year-old man was allegedly stabbed in the hand after he got into a "scuffle" with a man who broke into his home in Melbourne's south-east overnight.

Police arrested an 18-year-old with the help of the dog squad, after chasing him onto roofs of houses, following the alleged aggravated burglary and stabbing in Narre Warren.

Officers were called to reports a man broke into a home on Troupes Creek Promenade about 11.45pm and had been confronted by the residents.

"A scuffle ensued and one of the residents, a 77-year-old man, suffered a laceration to his hand," police have said in a statement.

"The offender ran from the property, got onto an allegedly stolen dirt bike and rode off."

Officers allegedly found a man fitting the description of the alleged intruder riding a dirt bike near Ohio Court about 12.40am.

Police have said the man dumped the bike, jumped fences then climbed onto the roofs of nearby houses before the dog squad tracked him down and he was arrested.

An 18-year-old man is currently assisting police with their enquiries.

The 77-year-old victim was treated at the scene for his injuries.
