Since it became easy for movie lovers across the world to stream their favourite series from the comfort of their homes, fans have made it their second nature to binge watch films. However, easy as it is to access new films, it has also become as difficult to pick films out of an array of exciting options.

If you are stuck on shows to watch as you go through the weekend, here are the best shows to binge-watch this weekend.

Looking for a fantasy series to get engrossed in? The Wheel of Time is one you should watch. The series centres on five friends from the secluded village of the Two Rivers, who are on a quest to figure out which one of them is ‘The Dragon Reborn,’ whose existence could either save the world from evil or break it.

In two seasons, these five friends embark on a quest to save the world while dealing with personal struggles, guided by Moiraine Damodred, a member of the Aes Sedai, a powerful organisation of women who can channel the One Power.

In July 2022, the series was renewed for its third season.

Gyeongseong Creature

A South Korean thriller historical drama series set in 1945, during the occupation of Gyeongseong (the old name for Seoul) by the Imperial Japanese Army. The story attempts to portray the brutality Gyeonseong citizens went through with the Japanese forces as it touches on subjects such as physical assault and biological experiments.

The story itself centres around Jang Tae-Sang, the master of the city’s most successful pawnshop and Yoon Chae-ok, who, on a mission to find her missing mother joins forces with Jang Tae-Sang whose livelihood is in danger as per a request from the head of the Japanese police force. It further highlights the place of rebels whose ideologies shaped how the series progressed and exposes the shady biological experiments of the Japanese, which led to a strange creature being born in Gyeoseong’s most prestigious hospital, Ongseong.

Written by Kang Eun-kyung and directed by Chung Dong-yoon and Roh Young-sub, the thriller series on Netflix stars Park Seo-joon, Han So-hee and more. The second season is reportedly slated for release in 2024.

The Showmax original drama series explores the lives of three main characters – Etim (Kanayo), Pius (Nonso Odogwu), and Victoria (Ruby Okezie) – who get entangled in a murder case that creates a clash of belief systems as the trials unfold.

Etim, the 50-year-old lawyer struggling to make headway with his career, attempts to revive his career with a mystical murder case with Pius, who was the lead suspect. Etim goes head to head with the ambitious prosecuting counsel, Victoria, together they find out everything is not how it seems.

Agu features Mofe Duncan, Ireti Doyle, Linda Ejiofor, Ego Nwosu, Vine Olugu, and more. Also, the series was directed by Anis Halloway, the director behind ‘Unmarried.’

War: Wrath and Revenge

In case you’ve not watched Ebonylife’s Sons of Caliphate, you need to get on the wave immediately as War: Wrath and Revenge is a spin-off to the film. The political drama on Netflix tells the story of a Northern gubernatorial candidate, Nuhu, and his wife, Binta.

WAR follows the rise of Nuhu Bula’s governorship aspirations in Kowa, as orchestrated by his wife Binta, who wants her husband to succeed by every means necessary. When Binta discovers her husband is about to take a second wife, she pulls every string to stop this from happening.

The fictional political film that focuses on the Northern region of the country features a range of cast such as Mofe Duncan, Rahama Sadau, Yakubu Mohammed, Patrick Doyle, Ayoola Ayolola, and more.
