A couple of weeks ago, Edmonton Oilers were rocketing up the NHL standings like the third stage of a Saturn V launch vehicle. In the 6-week span between Dec 20 and the end of January, the red hot squad reeled off 16 consecutive victories. In the process they made up 15 points on division rivals Vegas Golden Knights (who played 1 more game than the Oilers over that interval) and 16 on Los Angeles Kings (who played 4 more).
