A large-scale hooning event forced the closure of a street in Queensland this afternoon.

A crowd of almost 400 people gathered on Bourke Street in Waterford West in Logan as some drivers performed dangerous stunts.

Residents of the street were left unimpressed as traffic banked up and police blocked off the roads.

"It's disgusting," one woman told 9News.

When 9News asked one man about the reason behind the gathering he explained "mate, it's a party, it's just a party, it's family".

At one point multiple police officers were surrounded inside their vehicle as some attendees kicked and punched dents in the patrol car.

"Fortunately we had police nearby that were able to respond and back them up," Chief Inspector Les Bulluss said.

No one was injured and one person was taken into police custody.

9News was told supporters swarmed the street for a YouTuber who was visiting to showcase the neighbourhood.

However, Bourke Street is where 17-year-old Jai Anderson lost his life in March last year after he was allegedly struck by a utility while on a dirt bike.

"None of this was done with the endorsement of the [Anderson] family," Bulluss said.

"In fact, they're really distressed by the actions and crowd and what occurred here."

Police have slammed those who attended the gathering.

"Potential for a tragedy just cannot be understated, they're putting their lives at danger," Bulluss said.
