9News understands the man, who was working on a nearby garden, was hired by the couple's neighbour.

Their regular contractor wasn't available today so the 26-year-old was sent instead.

Harbison also said police would investigate whether weapons or implements were used in the alleged attacks.

"As I said it's very early days in the investigation so we don't have the full facts yet," he said.

"I'll stress that this is not a domestic and family violence incident".

"Unfortunately this is policing and it's happening too often," Harbison said.

"Our first responders will seek some help for them and make sure they're OK and not too traumatised.

"The same goes for the QAS (Queensland Ambulance Service) and the first responders that attend all of these incidents."
