A bushwalker is being rescued after falling from a cliff and spending the night battling the freezing cold temperature north of Sydney.

Multiple paramedics and firefighters are on scene assessing the man who fell off the coastal track at Eagle Rock in the Royal National Park.

It is believed he fell into the ocean late last night and managed to pull himself onto the cliff side before climbing further up, where he currently remains.

He is about 20 metres down from the cliff edge and is unable to be moved, according to firefighters.

Paramedics said the man was in stable condition and was being treated for some minor scratches and mild hypothermia.

Firefighters are working with paramedics on an extraction plan and may have to winch him from the cliffside with a rescue helicopter.

More to come.
