There are music duos, and there are impactful music duos that changed the face of music as it is today. D’banj and Don Jazzy’s collaboration, for the first stage of their careers, is one of those impactful collaborations that shaped the Nigerian music industry.
In a post in celebration of his 20-year journey in the Nigerian music industry, D’banj personally delivered an invite to the Mavin Record label boss, Don Jazzy, while delivering a heartfelt speech.
“I started this journey with you. 20 years ago we came back from London together and I remember in 2004, you were the first person that believed in me, the first person that acknowledged me and I just want to say my story is not complete without you,” he told Don Jazzy.
He further expressed gratitude for the ‘countless memories and milestones’ they’ve shared as he celebrates two decades of ‘brotherhood, entertainment, and unwavering support.’
Since 2004, D’banj and Don Jazzy have set the pace for how the Nigerian music scene has evolved. From Tongolo, their first single together, to creating Mo’hits records that housed some of Nigeria’s biggest acts, including Wande Coal and Dr Sid, to paving the way for international collaborations with the Kanye/GOOD Music collaboration – the duo have made history.
In celebration of his 20 years on stage, the music star will host a free concert at the New Afrika Shrine on June 11, 2024.
