Super Falcons of Nigeria forward, Asisat Oshoala has stressed that she and her teammates would win a medal at the 2024 Olympics.
The Super Falcons who are yet to win a medal in the history of the Olympics will commence their campaign in the 2024 edition of the tournament in one of the toughest groups, Group C. The group comprises of Spain, Japan and Brazil.
Spain and Brazil are multiple world champions, while Japan are seen as the giants of Asian women’s football, hence, most football enthusiasts regard the group as the Group of Death.
But despite how tough the group looks, Asisat Oshoala argued that the Super Falcons who have never gone beyond the quarter-final stage of the Olympics can qualify from it and even make the podium.
Note that coach Randy Waldrum and his girls have failed to qualify for the Olympics in the last 16 years but that wouldn’t discourage Oshoala going into the 2024 edition of the tournament.
“I have a lot of confidence in this team. We have many young players and we can make things difficult for our opponents”, Asisat Oshoala told reporters in France.
“We don’t just think about getting out of the group, I think we can actually walk away with a medal.”
The Super Falcons will commence their 2024 Olympics campaign on Thursday, July 25, a day before the opening ceremony of the games. The game will take place against Brazil at the Matmut Atlanque, Bordeaux at 6 p.m. Nigerian time.
