Knives found in Melbourne park where man’s body found

Several knives have been found after a group were seen running from a park in Melbourne, where a man's body was found early this morning.

Homicide squad detective inspector Dean Thomas said a man who was at Balmoral Park in Derrimut found the victim injured and called police about 4.20am.

The man and first responders tried to resuscitate him but he died at the scene.

An investigation is underway after a man's body was found at a park in Melbourne early this morning.

Thomas identified the man as a 28-year-old from Derrimut, who appeared to have been stabbed.

"What we do know is that the deceased male was last seen around 9pm in the Derrimut area by his sister in the company of three males," he said at a press conference today.

What happened between 9pm yesterday and 4.20am today, and who he was with, will form part of the investigation.

Thomas said several knives have been found around the park and multiple people were seen to have run from the park.

A crime scene has been established and the park has been cordoned off from the public as investigations remain ongoing.
