A four-year-old boy who died after being hit by a car in Sydney's west has been described as the "sweetest, most kind-hearted boy".

Ace, whose last name was not given, died on the way to hospital after he was hit by a Ford Sedan on Glossop Street at North St Marys, just after midday yesterday.

A friend described the death as an "unimaginable loss".

"Ace was the sweetest, most kind hearted boy, who loved to play with his cars and dinosaurs and spend time with the people who he loved," friend Jo Blair said on a fundraiser.

"His bright light will not be forgotten and the world seems a darker without him.

"He will be greatly missed by his mummy Tysha, daddy Blake and big sister Ari.

"Ace you will forever be the first thing they think of when they wake up and the last they remember before falling to sleep."

Police are investigating and said the driver of the sedan stopped at the scene.

He was taken to Nepean Hospital for mandatory testing.
