For more than a decade the 53 Degrees venue in the heart of the city’s university campus put Preston on the gigs and tours map.

Alongside dance nights, clubbing, comedy and plenty more the upstairs and downstairs venues saw big name and up-and-coming performances.

Not just visited by students the live music events saw crowds from in and around the city come to see some of their favourite acts or discover bands who were on the edge of breaking the big time.

A run through the upstairs room, known as Club 53, with the acts from 2008 onwards shows plenty who now will be comfortable being in the upper order of major festival line-ups or headlining large-scale venues.

As Blog Preston revealed on Tuesday morning 53 Degrees is due to make a return from this summer onwards, after a decade of acting mainly as an internally-focused university venue since formally closing in 2015, and begin welcoming more of the public to a wider range of shows again with a focus initially on that smaller club venue which takes around 300 to 400 people.

To mark the return, we’ve been raiding the archives of Paddy Green, Ian Smith and Shay Dame who spent a lot of time down the front taking pictures of the bands and artists who graced the stage.

From Biffy Clyro, to Frank Turner, The Courteeners, Ellie Goulding, Calvin Harris and lots more besides, here’s a run through of what we uncovered.
