England’s women’s cricket team has dashed South Africa’s hopes of a first ICC World Cup title.
The Lionesses beat the Proteas by 40 runs at the Oval in London last night to advance to Sunday’s ICC T20 World Cup final at Lord’s where they’ll meet Australia.
South Africa who opted to field, had England reeling at 23 for three in the fourth over.
But captain Nat Sciver-Brunt and Heather Knight first steadied the ship for England and then accelerated, putting on 133 for the fourth wicket.
Sciver-Bunt made 75 off 47 deliveries and Knight 58 from 47 balls, steering England to 169 for five in 20 overs.
Despite 51 from opener Tazmin Brits, the Proteas were restricted to 129 for eight and denied a third successive T20 World Cup final appearance.
