The rally began as a small event in 1938 but now attracts over 700,000 people[/caption]

The South Dakota event took place August 1-10 at 1040 Harley-Davidson Way in Sturgis, drawing in a crowd of 700,000 people.

The event is advertised as a thrilling and electrifying show that tests the limits of entertainment for motorcycle enthusiasts.

“Get ready for an electrifying event that will leave you breathless,” the website reads.

“The All American Thrill Show is set to take center stage during the opening ceremonies of the City of Sturgis Motorcycle Rally Friday, Aug. 2.”

“The event will kick off with a parade at 3 p.m., culminating in the unforgettable experience of the All American Thrill Show that will push the boundaries of entertainment and thrill seekers,” it states.

It began in 1938 with only a handful of riders, but it grew to a massive event with close to 750,000 attendees in 2015.

However, the much-anticipated event caused many serious auto accidents, putting several riders in danger.

The South Dakota Highway Patrol released a detailed report documenting the crashes and arrests that happened during the rally, as reported by KELOLAND.

The fatal crash took place at roughly 9:30 a.m. when a 2019 Harley-Davidson bike was traveling west, and the driver could not maintain control while navigating a curve in the road.

The driver tipped to the right, slid into the eastbound lanes, and collided with three other bikes.

The driver died from the injuries, and the other riders faced serious, non-life threatening injuries.

Brake issues, flat tires, and poor steering control led to several more injuries throughout the day.

Only a couple of hours after the fatal crash, a 2013 Victory motorcycle suffered a flat tire.

The driver attempted to pull off the SD Highway 44 when he lost control of the bike, pulling him and another passenger into a ditch.

Both riders neglected to wear helmets and suffered serious non-life threatening injuries due to the tumble.

In another instance, the 2013 Harley-Davidson bike was going east on I-90 when the rider tried to exit on a road that had been blocked off.

Due to the unexpected lane closure, the driver laid the bike on its side and slid under the gate, suffering serious injuries.

At nearly 1 a.m., Sturgis Police tried to stop a driver for exhibition driving — a form of reckless driving using excessive acceleration, braking, or maneuvering.

The rider tried to evade law enforcement by leaving the lane of travel at a high speed and entered a ditch.

The driver, who was also not wearing a helmet, endured serious, life-threatening injuries and was transported to Monument Health.

Besides the crashes, SD Highway Patrol issued a total of 21 DUI arrests, 31 misdemeanor drug arrests, and 14 felony drug arrests, according to KELOLAND.
